Visiting Little Quarry Rd.

I drove over to Little Quarry Rd (goes S off of Quince Orchard between
Kentlands Blvd. and Route 28) to see the parking patterns which are
similar to what is proposed for Walker Ave. It was interesting because
as you come off of Quince Orchard the road is marked the same as Walker
Ave. is now, with parking on one side and a double yellow line. Further
on the yellow line starts to disappear and a block later there is no
line or marked parking spaces. Very few cars were parked along most of
the road (3 pm) but one block had about 1/3 of the curb parked full. It
wasn't hard to get down this part, but one clearly had to think about
where to drive, rather than just following the line or a lane marking.
I have often felt that the existing 9.5' lane width with the double
yellow line makes a driver feel like they are between 2 big trucks, my
reaction to that situation is to speed up to get out of the 'tunnel'.
The randomness of the parking also gave the road a casual feel. I
personally think this is worth trying on Walker and that the proposals
for the other streets are pretty good. One of my neighbors mentioned
adding a mid-block crosswalk on Walker, that makes sense to me to give
the children a place to cross without running out from between parked
cars all the time.

Does anyone else have opinions on the plans so far? Is everyone worried
about speaking by name to an unknown audience?
