I am also interested in cross-walks.

According a study cited in the ITE "Traffic Calming-State of the Practice" (p31),
vertical speed control measures are the most effective and least costly way to
calm traffic. However, speed humps have met with significant opposition across the
County. The City seems to have been able to deflect this opposition by installing
"raised brick cross-walks". The result is an aesthetic, vertical speed control
measure that is not as big a political target.
