Remember that the more that streets in any community are made one-way or otherwise restricted, the traffic is just pushed out onto other roads. Large capacity roads like Russell may be able to handle increased volumne up to a point, but you'll reach saturation very quickly if one gets carried away. I certainly understand the desire signifcantly restrict through traffic on secondary streets. I remember, for example, the comments of folks on Chesnut when the City Council was discussing the State project for Route 117. However, the political, let alone engineering, challenges for any traffic project increase with the more dramatic approaches that are taken.
The underlying and most important inference I've reach from the E-mails I've read so far and the two charettes is that there is a limitation to how much can be done in the Brookes area independent of addressing traffic issues in Olde Towne, the North frederick Avenue Cooridor and Montgomery Village Ave, etc. As we try to come up with localized solutions for the Brookes-Walker area, we should all actively follow similar efforts in the adjacent corridors.
