I agree 100% about an underpass (or some sort of grade separated interesection) in the Chesnut area (and perhaps even at other locations. I have to cross the tracks daily to get from my home near Gaithersburg Middle School to Route 355 southbound to Rockville. As I'm sure everyone is aware, the only grade separated crossing in my area is the Deer Park Bridge. The Bridge is one lane and traffic is even more jammed up than usual due to the summer resurfacing of the Bridge by the County. Sometimes I've tried crossing in via the Summit/East Diamond intersection, but that lcoation is even worse. I can certainly apperciate all the related cut through traffic that other roads up by the fairground deal with.

It may be excessive to suggest a "crisis" situation exists, but as development and traffic increase throughout central Gaithersburg, the need for smooth flow acroos the CSX tracks increase. Very Long freight trains are going to continue...thinking about an underpass at Chesnut and other possible grade separated crossings is certainly in order. Of course, its not going to be cheap and will take quite awhile to get through the State, City, and/or County planning process. Any such project or projects will ahve to compete with everything else. Nevertheless, I hope the City will start thinking about it.
