--This one should have a table that works with most readers.--
Susan Brown was kind enough to keep (and find) some of the traffic
survey data from October 1992. I think the numbers make it clear
tchanges following that study (double yellow line and painted parking
spaces) were not effective. Does anyone have the 1992 numbers for other
streets?
Maryland Avenue between MD 355 and Highland Ave.
Eastbound (towards Russell Ave.) 1992 2000
Avg. Speed 28.1 34.9
% over 35 mph 14.7 11.6
Number off cars/day 801 971
Number of cars > 35 mph 118 113
Westbound(towards 355)
Avg. Speed 27.5 38.2
% over 35 mph 12.4 24.3
Number of cars/day 904 1,167
Number of cars > 35 mph 112 284
To me this also suggests, that whatever solutions end up being proposed,
we need some 'after' testing and monitoring to see if improvements
actually occur and are maintained. It also seems to me that this one
block has the most extreme problem with excess speeds.
